I like to see the sparkling stars in the night sky. I have ever since I was a child. I used to sit at my bedroom window looking at the stars and try to count them. Sometimes I would find some favorite ones and give them a name and I would talk to the Stars like I would if I was writing in a diary. Occasionally I would be blessed to see a falling star and that would excite me.
As an adult I still enjoy looking at the stars on a clear night. There’s just something I find fascinating about it. And then I learned about meteor showers where I could see multiple falling stars.
Quite a few years back I had a wonderful blessing from God with being able to see a Perseid meteor shower. I heard there was going to be a meteor shower that could be seen for the next few days but every night it was cloudy. I really wanted to see it so one night during its peak, when the best visibility was to be around 2 am, I checked the night sky before bed, but again it was cloudy.
I prayed to God and said “I really want to see this meteor shower and I am willing to go out at 2 in the morning to see it. But it’s so cloudy I don’t know if it would be worth it. I have to work the next day so I don’t want to get up needlessly. Heavenly Father, if I am going to be able to see it, will you please wake me up at 2.”
I did my nightly routine and fell sound asleep. About 2 in the morning I woke up for no reason. When I looked at the clock and saw that it was 2 a.m. I jumped out of bed and ran to look outside at the night sky. It was full of clouds. I was confused because I thought Heavenly Father must have woken me up so I could see the meteor shower but the sky was full of clouds and I couldn’t see any stars.
Using my faith to trust Heavenly Father I went ahead and got dressed, got in my car, and drove about 10 miles out of town into the country. I watched the sky the whole way and it was solid clouds. I kept wondering what am I doing in the middle of the night out here in the country to look at clouds. But I continued to go to a place that was secluded and dark. I parked my car and got out.
As soon as I got settled to watch the night sky – right before my eyes the clouds parted and I was able to see thousands of stars. It was absolutely gorgeous. Within an hour’s time I saw 30 – 40 shooting stars. It was wonderful! I felt blessed and connected to God.
After an hour I decided to come back home to grab another hour or two of sleep before I had to get up for work. I packed my things up into the car and I started to return home. I took one last look at what had been a beautiful clear sky and much to my amazement it was back to solid clouds.
That experience wiped out my faith and replaced it with the knowledge that my Heavenly Father knows me, hears my prayers and will do miraculous things to please me. It has sustained me for many years and gives me courage to ask for more miraculous happenings in my life.
