Janet Packer, Coordinator for The Wonder of the Nativity, 2007

I want to share an experience of preparing for the creche displays of the stake nativity program a couple of years ago. As I was completing the second day of arranging nativities and the lights, and I was in the room alone. I set up the last one, stepped back to see, and realized there was no baby Jesus. Oh dear. Where was it? I looked everywhere. I felt bad; I was searching, but it was nowhere. I had to explain this to the family.

I packed that one away and rearranged the table. I contemplated that the nativity scene was not displayable. The scene is pointless without Him. My life without Him is also pointless. There is no hope of repentance or forgiveness, eternal life, resurrection, or comfort. Jeremiah 29:13: “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” When you search for Him with all your heart! Have I searched for Him like I searched for that figurine? It takes diligence and persistence everyday. The family found him stuck inside under the stable. He had been there all along, just like in my life. I am grateful for His love and His gospel.
