My Temple Calling – Carmen Dahlgren

All Member Stories, Temples

1997: I truly enjoy working in the Chicago Temple. We started working two weeks a month in December 1996, returning to our home in Onalaska each weekend. I felt the Spirit right away and the workers were so kind and helpful. My knowledge increased and I loved the work. It is a good feeling to do the Lord’s work in His temple and an honor and an opportunity to serve each patron that comes…I am reminded daily of the blessings we have through the temple. I am reminded often of the importance of this great work. I am so grateful that the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Priesthood have been restored so these ordinances can be performed for the living and the dead.

On May 27, 1997 I was set apart as an assistant to the Temple Matron, Sister Barton. It has been an uplifting experience. We have felt help from the Lord as we have moved to Chicago and now work at the Chicago Temple full time. We have felt blessings in our lives as our understanding of the gospel increased. So many of our brothers and sisters make great sacrifices to work at the Chicago Temple.

When the St. Louis Temple was dedicated, 647 temple workers had to be released from the Chicago Temple so they could serve in the St. Louis Temple. This is the way to get a temple – go to the temple and work at the temple as the saints in St. Louis did. Make the sacrifices now to work at the Chicago Temple so that someday you will have a temple in Minnesota.
