Scout’s Honor – by Paulo Isaac DeCora Guimaraes

All Member Stories, Service, Youth Activities

As an Eagle Scout, Paulo rescued a young girl from drowning during Scout Camp at Gooseberry Falls. The young girl was playing near the edge of the river which led to the falls. Her parents were not paying attention to the young woman when she was swept up in a pool with a rapid current. Paulo saw the girl fall into the water and her parents were screaming for help. They didn’t know how to swim. Thanks to Paulo’s quick action, he did a soccer slide into the water, and the young girl was able to grab hold of Paulo. Paulo brought the girl to shore where her parents were so grateful for his bravery.

Paulo did not tell any of the leaders of his heroic action when he returned to camp. The parents happened to walk by the encampment and saw Paulo. They thanked him again and this is when Brent Spencer, Scout Leader, learned about the rescue.
